Department of Dermatology
Description
The Department of Dermatology and Venereology of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital started its activity since 1984. It is one of the most burdened department of MMC&H as the department gives service to around 800 patients daily in OPD. In the department there is one Associate Professor, one Assistant Professor, one Senior Consultant (on attachment), one Registrar, two Assistant Registrars, one Indoor Medical Officer, and three Medical Officers. Indoor service of this department has started on 1st July, 2014. The department runs its outdoor service in 1st floor and indoor service in 5th floor of the building. In outdoor male, female and children are given service in separate setting. In indoor there are two wards, one male ward and another female ward with a total of 20 beds. There are both undergraduate like MBBS and postgraduate diploma course (Diploma in dermatology and venereology). Post graduate DDV course has been started since 2004. Every year six students are admitted in DDV course in dermatology department of MMC&H. Department of dermatology and venereology of MMCH is accredited by BCPS for full FCPS training.
Academic service includes teaching of 4th year and 5th year MBBS students. The department has a seminar room with the facility of powerpoint presentation through multimedia and overhead projector used for large scale teaching. Here regular clinical meetings and seminars are arranged. There is a well equipped post graduate class room where classes of DDV students are taken at regular basis. After every block exams are taken and students are given feedback.
The department has an Operation theatre where there is the facility for most of the dermatological procedures which are needed for diagnosis and treatment of the patient such as cryosurgery, electocautery, biopsy, I/L steroid injections and also wood’s lamp examination.
Education
Course and training: MBBS, Diploma (Diploma in dermatology and venereology).
Schedule of class hour of different courses
MBBS:
In 4th phase 17 hours’ lectures with 20 hours integrated teaching.
Clinical bedside teaching – In 4th year 2weeks, In 5th year 2 weeks. 24 hours each week with a total of 96 hours including morning and evening.
5th year block posting for 1 week.
After every placement there is ward final examination which include written and viva voce.
Diploma course:
Duration: 2 years
Lectures: 48 hours per year ( 1 lectures per week),
Tutorial / Small group teaching: 84 hours per year ( 2 tutorials per week).
Total class 132 hours per year.
Interactive session / Clinical meeting: 1 session per week.
