Description

Mymensingh Medical College is one of the oldest and a leading government medical College in Bangladesh established in 1962. Functional aspects of human body are taught in the department of Physiology. At present, in this department there are two associate professors, three assistant professors, six lecturers and one medical officer.

There are both undergraduate courses like MBBS, BDS, and postgraduate course (M-Phil Physiology). Postgraduate course has been started since July-2002. BDS course has been started since January, 2012. Physiology is essential basic subject for all of these courses.

The department of Physiology, Mymensingh Medical College is center of excellence for learning cellular physiology, blood, cardiovascular physiology, respiratory physiology, renal physiology, gastrointestinal physiology, endocrine physiology, reproductive physiology, nervous system and special sense including body temperature.

Academic service includes teaching MBBS students in 1st and 2nd year and BDS 1st and 2nd year. Every year five students of postgraduate courses are admitted in the M. Phil Physiology course. The department has carried out thesis works in collaboration with community medicine and public health, Institutional Review Board of Mymensingh Medical College and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.

It is one of the most spacious and well equipped departments. There is a well-furnished laboratory in this department.

Education

Undergraduate: MBBS, BDS, Postgraduate: M. Phil (Physiology).

Schedule of class hour of different courses

MBBS-Lectures-156 hours including integrated teaching, Tutorial-120 hours, Practical class-97 hours, Term exam and viva-135 hours. Total Class hours-508 hours.

BDS-Lectures-  156 hours with MBBS including integrated teaching, Tutorial-120 hours, Practical class-97 hours, Term exam and viva- 74 hours. Total Class hours-447 hours.

Post graduate- Lectures- 60 hours (3 lectures per week), Tutorial-90 hours (3 lectures per week), Total Class hours-150 hours/year.
