Department of Respiratory Medicine

Respiratory Medicine is an important sub-specialty of Medicine. Its history is not that ancient, rather Respiratory Medicine began to evolve from 1950s. Department of respiratory Medicine, Mymensingh Medical College started its journey from 2011. Initially Department dealt with consultation of referred cases. Now, it’s a department of excellence for Medical Education, outdoor referral center, indoor patient unit. Respiratory department serve more than 150 patients per week and 20 indoor patients remain admitted.  As a part of evolution, Department entered era of intervention and specialized Pulmonary investigation. Currently, Respiratory Medicine department offer IT tube insertion, Pleurodesis, Pleural biopsy, Spirometry, USG guided pleural fluid aspiration, ABG analysis. In near future Department will start diagnostic & therapeutic bronchoscopy. Department of Respiratory Medicine, MMC annually conduct about 950 hour of medical education session among Under-graduate students (MBBS, BDS) and post graduate students.

Department of Respiratory Medicine currently have one Assistant Professor, one attached Assistant Professor, two Assistant Registrar and One Indoor Medical Officer. Post of Associate Professor and Registrar is vacant.

In view of continuous skill development, Respiratory medicine has a study corner having various original text book of Pulmonology, Imaging, guidelines, intervention pulmonology and pulmonary function tests. Besides, department is organizing Monthly CME and Academic sessions.
